Description

JOB GOAL: This position completes a variety of tasks in the general care of the assigned school and surrounding grounds. Provides safe and clean school grounds for students, staff, and community. Performs general gardening and outdoor maintenance work for District properties. Will be required to operate riding mower, hand gardening tools, leaf blower, and related equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Two years’ prior experience in and knowledge of grounds keeping, landscaping, or related field
  3. Ability to read and understand schematics.
  4. Valid ODL
  5. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine groundskeeping duties including maintaining lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, seeding, planting, and landscaping.
  • Operate and maintain lawnmowers and sweepers and other power equipment used in grounds work (pruners, trimmers, blowers, etc.) to ensure they work effectively and safely.
  • Sets-up and maintains athletic fields and tracks.
  • Inventories grounds equipment and supplies.
  • Assists head custodians, work crews, and other persons responsible for grounds at all schools.
  • Maintains the buildings assigned to his/her keeping for the storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance as assigned by head groundskeeper including some welding and fabrication.
  • May work as a helper to a skilled worker in the performance of plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, construction, or repair.
  • Performs minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Attends work regularly and is punctual
  • Other related duties may be assigned.

 

Good physical health and ability to perform manual labor.  Physically able to perform essential job functions which include lifting 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, and carrying on a regular basis.

 

2023/2024 Salary Range:  $14.05-$15.50

2024/2025 Salary Range: $16.28-$17.99 (effective July 1, 2024)

 

Assignment is 8 hours per day / 5 days per week, 12 month position
