South Umpqua School District has an opening for a Temporary High School Counselor at South Umpqua High School for the 2024/2025 school year.
Douglas County is located in Southern Oregon along the I-5 corridor. Our School District consists of 5 schools serving students from the communities of Canyonville, Myrtle Creek, and Tri-City.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Valid Oregon school counseling license
- Knowledge of Oregon diploma requirements, college entrance requirements, and scholarship
- Knowledge of the social and emotional needs of high school students
- Knowledge of college, career, and post high school options and pathways for high school students
- Knowledge of and experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents.
Responsibilities
- The School Counselor will provide guidance to students in the development and implementation of appropriate educational plans
- Meet with and support students with academic, social, and mental health needs
- Conduct timely individual counseling sessions as requested by students, staff or parents
- Facilitate communication between students, parents and staff
- Clarify goals and move toward appropriate solutions
- Provide immediate counseling for students in crisis
